Fore-ward Thinking: Effective Work Planning for Foremen

Is proper detailed planning becoming a lost art in the construction industry? This course aims to reverse that trend by providing foremen with a strong model that will improve their crew’s performance and the company’s bottom line.

You’ll be taken through a back-to-basics approach to site and task planning that can be applied to any type of work and is equally applicable to the foremen of trade or general contractors.

In this hands-on course, you will build a work plan and two-week lookahead schedule. You will work through various planning scenarios and potential snags and be provided with strategies to help you determine requirements for manpower, material, equipment, quality and safety needs.

Topics:

  • What is planning, who should do it, what we should plan and when
  • Follow the planning cycle of plan, do, check, act
  • Finding the right information to put together a solid plan
  • Plan task activities for your crew including:
    • safety considerations
    • quality controls
    • calculating manpower requirements
    • material needs

    • working with other trades
  • Build a two-week lookahead schedule
  • Monitor and correct/update the plan if it goes off track
  • Communicate the plan to others
