Coaching Skills for Supervisors

Coaching is an effective tool that can elicit behavioral change. Coaching engages another person by asking questions versus directing or telling. The responsibility for a change in behaviour lies with the employee and not the leader. Coaching helps accomplish this.

In this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand what coaching is and what makes it different from mentoring or counselling
  • Identify the benefits of coaching
  • Identify the qualities of a coach and the essential skills required to coach others
  • Build their coaching skills through practice opportunities
  • Define performance by identifying behaviour
  • Coach good performance and poor performance
  • Hold a coaching conversation via a video-based coaching model
  • Deal with defensive behaviours (side-tracks)
