Structure

Following membership approval, new members are placed into one of five contractor categories (Divisions) or one of two Associate / Professional categories. Associate categories do not typically have the same access to information services as the regular member categories.

New members are placed into one of three classifications based on their connection to the construction industry. Regular Members make up the majority of WCA members. The membership categories are defined as follows:

Regular Member:
A regular member is a firm eligible to apply for membership, and who is actively engaged in general contracting, trade contracting, or the manufacture, distribution or sale of equipment, materials and supplies directly to the construction site. Prospective members in this category are further organized into a WCA Division of like companies.

The WCA Divisions consist of the General Contractors, Trade Contractors, Electrical Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, and Manufacturers and Suppliers. The Association holds regular meetings of these groups to provide industry updates and to discuss current issues.

Each division elects a chairperson who sits on the WCA Board of Directors and ensures that the interests of the division are addressed.

Associate Member:
An associate member is a person, corporation or firm which is otherwise eligible to apply for membership, and which actively provides products or services to one or more sectors of the construction industry, but which products or services are not primarily supplied directly to the construction site. A typical example of this would be an insurance company or bank. (Associate Members do not typically receive access to the same construction information as Regular Members.)

Professional Member:
A professional member is a person, firm or corporation, that is otherwise eligible to apply for membership; has been accepted into the Professional category; and whose representatives have professional designations, and are actively practicing their professions. These include, but are not restricted to: architects, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, certified general accountants, quantity surveyors, registered specification writers, interior designers, arbitrators and mediators. (Professional Members do not typically receive access to the same construction information as Regular Members.)
