Gold Seal Online Training for Managers, Supervisors & Estimators
(5 Gold Seal Credits for each course)
Communication, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
Objectives: This course is designed to help improve the written, oral and negotiating skills for estimators, superintendents and project managers who must deal effectively and professionally with employees, sub-trades, owners, clients, engineers and their employees. This course is self-paced and is approximately 8 hours in length.

Construction Project Management
Objectives: This course is designed for project managers, superintendents and estimators. The course covers business case development, procurement, contracting, risk management and project close-out.

Construction Law
Objectives: This course will provide managers with the tools to help them understand construction contracts, write contracts, identify simple errors in construction contracts, understand the process claim and learn to solve construction disputes effectively. A final mark of 75 per cent is required in order to receive a certificate of completion.

PWGSC: Energy Services Acquisition Program
PWGSC operates seven central heating and cooling plants in the National Capital Area. These plants provide steam, high-temperature hot water and/or chilled water to over 100 buildings. Key decisions need to be made about the future of these plants and how the Government acquires energy services for federal buildings in the National Capital Area.
PWGSC is seeking information from respondents with demonstrated capabilities, either individually or in partnership, to plan, finance, design, construct, operate or maintain major infrastructure directly related to the provision of energy services on a scale similar to that of PWGSC. Interested parties are invited to visit the Government Electronic Tendering Service at www.merx.com to access the Request for Information in French and English.

Online Planroom Tip of the Week: Activity Manager (to create a custom report)
The Activity Manager feature is used to create a custom report from a “Search Results” list. Click on the Activity Manager icon when it appears above “Search Results”; it will produce another list, which will provide a check box on each project. Once the projects have been checked, select “Show Report” to create a custom report which will include those projects of interest. Also available, add a group of projects to your favourite or subscription list.

CCA Survey: R&I in the Construction Industry
Two years ago, the Canadian Construction Association established a new permanent Committee with the mandate to champion and promote research and innovation in the Canadian construction industry. In doing so, CCA intends to create partnerships and synergy amongst stakeholders, serve as a conduit for the access to and dissemination of information, and support activities that will advance R&I in our industry.
More precisely, the Committee’s goals and objectives are to:
In April of this year, CCA acquired additional resources through a Government Program called Accelerate Ontario so that the Committee could better fulfill its mandate. Ryerson University is now a CCA partner in this initiative along with the National Research Council/Industrial Research Assistance program.
We are now conducting a survey to gather the data necessary to develop the roadmap mentioned above. We would kindly ask for your participation in this survey which can be found at:

Finance Minister Says Expect to See More Construction
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said recently that Canadians should expect to see more backhoes, trucks and hard hats in their travels as funds from Ottawa's $46.6-billion Canadian stimulus program finally begin to manifest as construction projects in the cross-country economy. Read more.
